INSPIRATIONAL royal army corps veteran Pip Flegel will be doing a charity ride in her mobility scooter to Guildford from Coventry, where she enlisted over 50 years ago.
Pip, who now lives in Lancashire, will be doing her charity ride to raise cash for the women’s royal army corps (WRAC) Association.
She will be accompanied by her dog, Ewok and will start her journey on her scooter, named the Pip-ellium Falcon’ and several ex-forces friends.
She will set off on Monday (July 17) at Coventry Transport Museum and will continue through Oxford by the canal, down to Reading, and on to Guildford.
She will be greeted in Guildford by the town’s mayor before enjoying a celebratory tea to follow at the local fire station.
After Pip retired due to ill health following 26 years as a postwoman, she discovered the WRAC Association via Facebook, which allowed her to reconnect with women she’d served with during her time in the army.
Previous fund-raising efforts include last year’s Greater Manchester Run with fellow members of the WRAC Association, who pushed her across the finish line in her wheelchair.
Despite struggling with both multiple sclerosis and myasthenia gravis, a rare condition causing muscle weakness, Pip said she is determined to continue her money-raising adventures.
Pip’s carer, Frank, who served in the Royal Army of Engineers for nine years, said: “Pip’s not a quitter – no matter how tough the going gets, she doesn’t give up.
“Her enthusiasm is so infectious and inspiring.”
