Articulated lorry driver trapped after crash which saw other driver leave scene - despite having a broken ankle

AN ARTICULATED lorry driver was left trapped after a crash which saw the other driver leave the scene – despite having a broken ankle.

In the early hours of this morning (Friday) police were called to the A423 Oxford Road in Ryton after a smash between a Mercedes and a Royal Mail lorry.

The Mercedes driver left the scene and was arrested nearby after providing a positive breath test. He had also suffered a broken ankle.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to free the lorry driver from his cab after he was left trapped. He suffered an injury to his back.




Police investigations are ongoing.
