AN ARTIST is being sought to design a mural alongside a key pedestrian underpass on Coventry’s famous ring road.
The key route at Junction 9 runs from the suburbs of Radford and Coundon into and out of the city centre and is adjacent to the Naul’s Mill Linear Park.
Coventry City Council is commissioning the piece to enhance the route for users, make the junction more welcoming, improve the quality of this public space and to further boost the area’s local identity.
It is hoped it will inspire a feeling of ownership among local people and provide a fantastic opportunity for a Coventry artist not currently represented in the city or an already established one.
The council will support the artist to turn their idea into reality and envisages an ‘arresting site-specific piece of artwork to improve the experience of this public space’.
Themes and aesthetics specific to that area of Coventry would be welcomed but how artists choose to represent the city’s is open to their interpretation.
The council has prepared historical information about the site and artists can email Jade Franklin Kennedy [email protected] to receive it and visit coventry.gov.uk/arts-1/artist-call-outs for more information.
