Bedworth community hero honoured for helping disabled woman after fall

A BEDWORTH hero who rushed to the aid of a disabled woman following a nasty fall has been honoured.

Mark Stanley quickly answered a call for help after a sick woman tumbled out of her chair at Medifeet Top2Toe on Bedworth High Street in November.

The woman, who is disabled and non-verbal, sustained a very nasty cut to her head, so staff called for an ambulance but were advised to get her to the hospital on their own if they could.

Staff lifted the woman and her husband went to fetch the car, but they needed help to get the vehicle to the shop.

A staff member spotted Mark, who was working for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, and he said he would meet her husband and walked with him to the barrier while the woman was helped into the car.

Shop owner Dresirae was impressed with Mark’s swift decision making and contacted the Council.

Mayor Coun Martin Welsh then organised a surprise presentation for Mark, where he was presented with the ‘Going the Extra Mile’ Award.

Dresirae said: “He used his own judgement in an emergency and made a horrible situation much better for this family.

“The lady received treatment in hospital and is now recovering at home.

“Thanks to Mark’s quick thinking, an emergency situation was dealt with swiftly to avoid more serious consequences.”
