Jail for Bedworth woman for seven thefts and two assaults

A BEDWORTH woman who was ‘already on thin ice’ has been jailed for seven thefts in the town and two assaults.

On April 13, Stacy Fowler, 46 from Furnace Road in Bedworth, was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for the assaults and stealing from shops.

Fowler is also required to pay a victim’s surcharge of £154.

This follows the activation of a previous suspended sentence for two counts of shoplifting and outraging public decency from March 15.

At around 3pm on April 2, Fowler entered a shop on All Saints Square and grabbed a £5 bottle of wine, before walking out of the store with no attempt to pay.

When a staff member challenged Fowler, she threw a can of beer at them, striking them on the chest.

No injury was caused by this incident.

Around 10 minutes later, Fowler entered a supermarket on Mill Street and took two bottles of wine worth £14 out of the shop without trying to pay.

She was challenged by shop staff but ignored them and made off with the wine.

At 8.30pm the next day, she entered a store on Newtown Road, adding chocolate, biscuits, and washing up products to a basket worth £44 and again left without any attempt to pay.

On this occasion, she was challenged by shop staff, and they managed to recover all items.

Then on April 6, Fowler entered another shop on Mill Street and stole two cans of gin and mixer worth £2 before returning two days later to steal £30 worth of meat.

She was challenged by staff on both occasions and left empty-handed.

But two days later, she entered another shop on All Saints Square to take ten tubs of washing pods.

After being challenged by staff, she attempted to punch the member of staff before dropping six of the tubs and making off with the other four.

She pleaded guilty to all charges at Coventry Magistrates Court on 13 April 13.

PC Chaloner said: “Fowler went back to brazenly steal from shops in Bedworth again and again and again, and on two occasions used violence to assist her.

“She knew that she was already on thin ice with her previous suspended sentence, and it’s only right that Bedworth businesses will be spared from her for the next 16 weeks.

“We hope she uses this time to take a step back and assess why she’s ended up with this path in life, and to access support services available to her.”
