A BEDWORTH man has been jailed for common assault, criminal damage and possessing a knife in a public place.
At around 2am on May 27, 2023, Wayne Morrison was captured on CCTV concealing a knife in his trousers before walking across a supermarket car park on George Street Ringway.
He was stopped by officers on Margaret Avenue, who discovered a large knife that had been discarded nearby.
Morrison was subsequently arrested.
Six months later, at 9.37pm on 6 November, officers responded to a call from a pub on Stratford Street in Nuneaton.
The call reported a man smashing the windows with the pub furniture and throwing a bottle at a member of staff.
The man in question, Morrison, had been challenged by staff for drinking his own alcohol inside the pub and was asked to leave.
After he was removed from the pub, Morrison became violent and smashed the glass in the front door with a chair.
He also threw a bottle at a member of staff.
At 9:41pm, Morrison was arrested by officers a short distance away.
Morrison, 43 of Mount Pleasant Road in Bedworth, was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison for possession of a knife in a public place.
He has received an additional 10 weeks for common assault and criminal damage, resulting in 44 weeks total in prison.
Morrison will also pay a £187 victim’s surcharge.
Morrison was sentenced on February 6 at Warwick Crown Court.
PC Halfacree said: “Morrison’s intentions with the knife he hid on his person don’t bear thinking about – we’re thankful we got to him before anything happened.
“There is no good reason to have a knife in public, and it only makes the world more dangerous for everyone, including the person who takes it out
with them.”
Insp Price added: “Getting violent with bar staff who are just trying to do their job and look after their patrons is such a needless thing to do.
“We’re very pleased with the response time of our officers on 6 November, with barely five minutes passing between the call coming in and Morrison’s arrest in Nuneaton town centre.”
