PUPILS from a primary school in Bedworth were given an insight into local history with an archaeological dig hosted by Persimmon Homes Central.
The Canons CE Primary School was invited to attend the dig, located at Hospital Lane, where Persimmon Homes has submitted plans to develop up to 455 new homes in the town.
Youngsters were given a talk from the team around the wider history of the site and were shown the Medieval and Roman artefacts which have already been found at the site.
Mrs Fallon, headteacher said: “We have had a wonderful time today, this was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the history of the town and to become little historians.
“Opportunities like this really help to bring history to life for children.
“They can see first-hand what came before. I think the children will always remember what they have learned today.
“It has been fascinating to see and handle artefacts that have been found and to witness the meticulous process of an archaeological dig.”
Emily Berville Charlesworth, land and planning manager at Persimmon Homes added: “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in.
“We’re always delighted to work with local schools to show them all of the different steps that make up our developments.
“It was great to host this visit for pupils at The Canons CE Primary School, allowing them to learn not only about the history of the Hospital Lane site, but also about the wide variety of works that go into creating a new community.”
