Beware! The Monsters are back

Coventry Editorial 18th Oct, 2021   0

FOR the second year running, rooftops in Coventry City Centre will be taken over by eight massive, mischievous, inflatable monsters during October half term.

The monsters, which were designed by the artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas, will feature as part of a public art trail in the city centre to mark the Halloween period.

For this year’s trail, Coventry will play home to an entirely different collection of monsters including a one-of-a-kind monster that pays homage to Coventry’s musical past.

With all these sneaky monsters on the loose in Coventry City Centre, the council are asking families to once again take on the role of ‘Monster Detectives’ to track down and name the monsters.

The job of the detectives will be to track down all the playful beasts, give them names and, if the detectives are brave enough, take photos with the monsters.

If families do take photos, they’re asking that they share them with the other detectives on the trail by using the hashtag #covmonsters21.

Coun Abdul Salam Khan, deputy leader and cabinet member for events said: “We’re delighted to be able to announce that the much-loved monsters trail is coming back to Coventry.

“We know how much families enjoyed taking on the role of monster detectives last year, so it’s great to be able to bring back the trail this October half term.

“We’ve got some fantastic new monsters this year, including one that pays tribute to Coventry’s past which I’m particularly excited to see.

“So, I would encourage everyone to visit the website, download a map and to take part in this imaginative trail.”

This imaginative and colourful trail is completely free of charge, and families will be able to follow the trail anytime throughout the day and evening.

Printed versions of the map will also be available for collection from the Council House.

The trail officially launches on the 25 October and maps will be available for collection from then.

Coventry Libraries are also running some mega monster-themed activities this October half-term, including a monster trail of their own inside the Central Library.
