Bike seized and destroyed by Coventry Police following anti-social riding concerns

POLICE have seized and destroyed an offending off-road bike following concerns in the community about the anti-social use of similar vehicles in Henley.

A 17-year-old was also charged and bailed to court for criminal damage and breach of a criminal behaviour order.

Officers have adopted the new Selecta DNA vehicle tagging spray to help identify offenders.

This allows them to examine offending vehicles and identify them from the spray.

The seizure and arrest came just seven days after the team adopted the Selecta spray, with plans to roll it out across the police.

Sgt Dean Stew, NPU lead for off-road bike crime and anti-social behaviour, said: “Acting on community concerns, we are now equipped with Selecta DNA spray.

“We are also working with social housing landlords and the local authority to explore civil enforcement, using it outside the criminal process.

“We are listening to the community concerns in the area and know how much of an issue the anti-social use of motorcycles or ‘e-bikes’ can be.

“We are now equipped with additional capabilities to identify riders who are trying to conceal their identity and will take steps across a range of partners to deal with those intent on causing ASB or committing a motorcycle-enabled crime.”
