UPDATE- Birmingham New Street to re-open shortly after suspicious item assessment

BIRMINGHAM New Street will be re-opening shortly after Birmingham British Transport Police confirmed the item found on one of the platforms has been assessed by specialist officers and is no longer being treated as suspicious.

New Street was evacuated after British Transport Police found a suspicious item on a platform causing severe disruption.

Road transport had been requested between Coventry and Northampton and Redditch and Bromsgrove to Longbridge.

West Midlands Ambulance service crews worked with West Midlands Police, the Birmingham British Transport police and West Midlands Fire service.
