AN EMPTY block of low-rise flats is being demolished by Coventry city council for future redevelopment on the site.
The flats at one to 15 Jasmine Court, Stoke Aldermoor, should be completely removed in the next few weeks.
Coventry city council said it is increasing efforts to tackle issues around empty properties in the city with the high demand of houses.
Coun Naeem Akhtar, cabinet member for housing and communities, said: “I’m delighted that our efforts are paying off to bring empty homes back into use.
“Jasmine Court has been a real eyesore, and I know that local people will feel a real sense of relief that something positive is going to happen.
“We are hopeful that eventually suitable social housing, providing family homes, will replace the demolished flats.”
Coun Abdul Khan, deputy leader of the council added: “I know that a number of council services have been working hard to remove this property.
“There are often a number of legal steps that need to be addressed to deal with housing that has been left empty and in poor disrepair, and I’m pleased to see a positive outcome for people living around Jasmine Court.”
