AN 84-YEAR-OLD former police officer had his day made as he met fellow members of the force at a ‘Blue Light’ Emergency Services professional breakfast at The Knowles Care Home in Tilehill.
Geoff Brown was able to meet several officers and got an extra surprise as he got to see a vintage Police Car which would have been used during his time on the force, as well as bikes from West Midlands Traffic Police.
He was able to enjoy the day alongside his wife Pat, who lives with him at Knowles, along with former colleagues, friends and family.
Geoff used to work from Little Park Street as a traffic officer and was one of the first to ride BMW motorbikes on the force.
He said: “Things certainly have changed since I was on the force.
“I remember some sad times and some happy times on the job, but the key is teamwork.”
The event aimed to bring together Knowles residents and local community professionals together to have fun while saying thank you to officers for their efforts.
The day was made possible by fellow police officer Dean Wainwright.
“Having served as a Traffic officer myself, when I learnt about Geoff, I jumped at the chance.
“I did a bit of detective work to track down Geoff’s old workmates.
“To see Geoff’s face light up when I drove the vintage traffic car into the car park and when the bikers from West Midlands Police arrived was amazing, his smile will stay with me for many years.”
The Knowles home manager Lisa Halford added: “It’s so wonderful to see Geoff excited and reliving his police life with the other officers and even passing on advice.
“The visit was such a success we plan to add this to our existing list of monthly social events that are so popular with our residents.”
