POLICE are responding to an incident involving the bomb squad in Coventry.

Soldiers from the Royal Logistics Corps are dealing with items at Brackenhurst Road, in Coundon.

Outbuildings at the property are being investigated.

A number of police are also in attendance.

A spokesma for West Midlands Police said: “We were called at 11.20am by workers clearing a property in Brackenhurst Road, Coventry, after they found two items resembling grenades. The Bomb Disposal Unit were called and both devices found to be empty.

“However, a further search of the house revealed a suspicious substance in the garage which the unit is currently assessing. Neighbours have been evacuated from nearby homes as a precaution.

“The matter is not being treated as terrorism incident: it’s understood the previous resident worked as an engineer during World War Two.”
