Brave Coventry toddler Cian who was rushed to hospital with life-threatening sepsis named ‘little trooper’ by military charity

A COVENTRY toddler who developed life-threatening sepsis and was rushed to hospital last month has been awarded a medal for his bravery by military children’s charity, Little Troopers.

Two-year-old Cian lives with his mum, Claire while dad Jordan, who serves in the British army, works away from home for months at a time.

Cian was recovering from impetigo when he suddenly developed a raging temperature and stopped drinking fluids.

Claire noticed a change in his behaviour, he was unable to sleep and began crying out in pain.

He was rushed to the walk-in centre and after two hours of waiting they were seen by a doctor who spotted that Cian was experiencing febrile seizures, at which point an ambulance was immediately called.

However, the family said they were told no ambulances were available, meaning Claire had to call her brother who came to the rescue and drove them to A&E.

Cian received treatment as soon as he arrived at the hospital, with Claire told they had caught the sepsis just in time, and the youngster made a full recovery three weeks later.

He has now been named ‘Little Trooper of the Month’ by the charity after Claire nominated him for the award, with Cian set to receive a medal, certificate and £50 gift voucher.

Claire said: “It was a terrifying time, especially with Cian’s Dad away, but Cian has been super brave and strong.

“He has dealt with it all amazingly well, better than me, and he always makes me laugh and smile when I’m struggling.

“I also want to say a big thank you to my Mum who was by our side the whole time.

“She then developed severe pneumonia and was hospitalised just a week later, but thankfully she is also recovering now and on the mend too.

“I’m really proud of Cian, he’s shown so much resilience despite being so young and not really understanding why Daddy is away.”

Little Troopers is a charity which supports children who have parents serving in the British Armed Forces.
