THE winner of this year’s Business Woman of the Year Award will speak at a major regional conference in Rugby tomorrow (November 6).

Dr Sharon Redrobe, chief executive of Twycross Zoo in Atherstone, Warwickshire, will speak at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s annual conference.

The event will focus around a theme of growing business through technology and is taking place at the Rugby World Cup fanzone in Rugby.

Dr Redrobe, an internationally-renowned zoologist, is leading a £55 million investment programme that will transform Twycross Zoo’s 34-acre site over the next 20 years and double visitor numbers from currently 500,000 a year to one million.

Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to announce Dr Sharon Redrobe’s attendance and speech at the conference.

“Sharon has built up nearly 20 years’ experience in the zoo industry and now enjoys international recognition as an influential speaker and ambassador for the zoo community.

“She is a tremendous role model for business leaders and we are sure her experience in what is a fast-evolving and challenging industry will provide valuable insights.

“As ever, our conference will bring together businesses from across the region as well as key civic figures such as our MPs and council leaders.”

Redrobe was appointed chief executive of Twycross Zoo two years ago and lectures internationally as well as having her work published in many papers and book chapters on aspects of conservation and veterinary medicine.

The keynote speech will be delivered by former England rugby union coach Sir Clive Woodward, who is now Chairman and Founder of Captured, a technology business with links to sport.

Global business journalist Tanya Beckett is also set to speak while Adam Marshall, executive director of policy and external affairs at the British Chambers of Commerce, will host the event.
