CALLING all slide testers!

The operators of Coventry’s new £36million waterpark are searching for ‘tidal trailblazers’ to try out its flumes before it opens.

The waterpark’s new website is urging volunteers to apply to test the attractions – including the nine highly anticipated slides.

It is now set to open to the public in the summer after several test events in the spring, Coventry City Council has confirmed.

A press release from CVLife – formerly known as Coventry Sports Foundation – states: “The Wave is looking for a team of tidal trailblazers to try out the amazing attractions and be in with a chance to be some of the very first to experience the adrenaline pumping facilities before the water park officially opens.

“With rides to cater for true pioneers of plunge, right through to baby and toddler ‘whipper splashers’, if you would like to be one of the first to ride the slides, sign up at www.thewavecoventry.com and you could be one of the very first to make a splash!”

Parents can put their children forward to test the smaller slides while older thrill seekers can apply on the website too.

The major project is nearing its completion as construction continues on the former Spire House site in the city centre.

A public launch was originally scheduled for the spring but it has now been pushed back.

A council spokesperson said: “It is anticipated that the day spa, 120-station fitness suite, dance studio, 25-metre pool and spinning studio will all be fully open to the public in the spring as part of a phased opening of The Wave.

“The waterpark element of The Wave will also open in the spring for a number of test events in readiness for a full public launch early in the summer 2019.”

The nine flumes include the ‘Navigator’ – a waterpark version of a roller coaster which has both uphill and downhill drops in a tube.

There will also be a ‘Speed Slide’ – featuring a drop of 20 metres – and a whirlpool style ride with a plunge pool.

Each ride will be complemented by light and sound features for an immersive ride experience.

There are also many new jobs up for grabs at the waterpark including cleaners, lifeguards and supervisors.
