A CANNABIS farm has been discovered at a dilapidated former pub in Nuneaton.
Police seized around 400 cannabis plants which were growing at the former pub in Church Road on Wednesday (January 15), following reports of suspicious activity at the site.
PC Amelia Loveridge from Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “The fire brigade put a closure order in place on the building in 2022 due to it being unsafe. They were concerned there was a serious safety risk to anyone going into the building and this in turn could pose a risk to surrounding buildings.
“As a result of the information provided we went to check on the site yesterday and discovered it was being used to grow cannabis. We seized 400 plants and discovered the living quarters for the people tending to the grow in a linked building.
“We’re carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and are appealing for anyone with more information to contact us.
“The production, sale and illegal use of cannabis is not a victimless crime. It often involves organised criminal gangs trafficking vulnerable people into the country and forcing them to maintain the grows. We won’t tolerate it in Nuneaton.
“Thank you to everyone who provided information about suspicious activity at the site.”
Anyone with information about the Church Road cannabis farm is asked to contact police via www.warwickshire.police.uk or by calling 101.
