FIRE CREWS were called out to Tile Hill in the early hours of this morning (July 12) as a car was left abandoned and set alight deliberately in a children’s play area.

A crew from Canley Fire Station were called to the scene at 1.29am after receiving several 999 calls from residents in the area.

The car was located in Plant Hill Crescent – it took fire services 40 minutes to reach the destination and put out the blaze.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: “The incident involved one car in a children’s play area of Plants Hill Crescent.

“The vehicle appeared to be abandoned and police say the fire was started deliberately.

“We sent one crew from Canley Fire Station and used one hose reel jet to put out the fire – two firefighters used breathing apparatus.”
