Cash boost to help Coventry foodbank feed ten city families

COVENTRY foodbank has been handed a much-needed cash boost as it tackles unprecedented demand.

A £500 donation from Bellway South Midlands has funded 226.9 kilograms of food to the foodbank at The Halo Centre in Binley.

This comes after the foodbank appealed for help over the school holidays amid a predicted 25 per cent drop in donations over the summer months as parents face a struggle to put food on the table.

The foodbank has already faced unprecedented demand for its service in 2023 while donations have plummeted, meaning since the start of the year it has been forced to use its cash reserves to buy over 20 tons of food.

Members of Bellway’s Coventry head office team have also been donating to the foodbank.

The cash will provide emergency food parcels for 10 families or 20 single people.

Dee Ward, Project Manager at Coventry Foodbank, said: “In the first six months of 2023 we have fed over 15,500 people and provided over 46,500 meals for children and adults across Coventry.

“We’re expecting demand to reach an all-time high during the summer holidays as more parents struggle to put food on their tables – and in order to support the additional families and individuals needing our help this summer we rely on donations to support those struggling.

“To have the support of Bellway during this period is a massive help to us – any donation will make a big difference to who we can help.”
