COVENTRY’S Park Bistro has defended its cashless system after it was slammed by Coventrians.
Several people contacted the Observer after the War Memorial Park bistro announced it would be opening to more visitors after a £100,000 expansion.
People felt the cashless system to pay for food and drink was ‘unacceptable’ and said not accepting physical money would result in the shop losing a lot of business.
One said he had previously seen an elderly couple try and order food and drinks and being turned away as they were trying to pay cash.
A spokesperson for No Ordinary Hospitality Management, which operates the Park Bistro, said: “We have operated a cashless policy at the Park Bistro since its launch and as with all of our public-facing businesses, this is to prioritise safety at peak times and protect our employees.
“The Park Bistro has proved popular over the last year – hence the reason for the expansion – and we are extremely grateful to the many visitors who do prefer to carry cash but have made exceptions to support our team and enjoy the venue.”
The Bistro has been expanded to feature 18 more covers inside as well as further outdoor seating and a new coffee hatch.
