Changes to bus route to help vulnerable in Allesley Green

Coventry Editorial 20th Jul, 2023   0

PROPOSED changes to a bus service in Coventry are set to be made which will aim to improve accessibility for those living in Allesley Green.

From September, the number 82 bus route which connects Solihull to Coventry city centre will be amended so it also calls into Woodridge Avenue.

Currently, people in the area who want to use the service would need to cross the A45 to catch the bus, with the elderly and vulnerable finding it challenging to do so.

After the Allesley Green residents association raised the issue, Woodlands Coun Gary Ridley submitted a request for the changes to the route.

After consulting with Stagecoach, which operates the service, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) decided to alter the route.

The specific changes will be announced 70 days before they are implemented.

Coun Ridley said: “This will encourage more people to ditch the car and create opportunities for older and more vulnerable people to be more independent, and travel further afield.

“I’m very grateful to Transport for West Midlands as they’ve listened to Allesley Green and people have got an outcome that will really work for them.”

A Stagecoach spokesperson added it was pleased to be able to reroute the service to better meet the requirements of the local community.
