TWO FRIENDS will be sporting a very different look this Saturday evening when they take centre stage as part of a charity head and beard shave for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.
Observer sports editor Steve Carpenter will have to adjust to a new look when he shaves his hair and barman Christie Brown is set to chop his iconic beard at the popular Four Provinces pub in Allesley Old Road.
The pair have already raised over £1,000 for Zoe’s Place in Ash Green – which the Observer is media partner to – and they will be hoping to increase that total on the evening with a bucket collection and a raffle with plenty of top prizes on offer.
“It started out as a bet but I never actually thought our friends and family would raise so much money for a great cause,” said Steve.
“I set a target of £1,000 and that was achieved on Christmas Eve. I’ve had long hair for as long as I can remember so it’s definitely going to feel weird. I’ve got a warm hat so I’m ready for the winter months.”
To achieve the fundraising target Christie put his name forward to shave his beard.
He added: “Thank you to everyone who donated so far and thank you to those who have provided great raffle prizes.
“It’s an honour to help a local charity out and it should be a great evening at Coventrys premier Irish bar!”
