MORE than £5,000 has been raised for the Stroke Association after a Coventry timber specialist company held its third annual charity golf day.

Avon Timber Merchants selected the Stroke Association as its chosen charity in memory of friend and work colleague Kevin Bosworth, who passed away at the age of 48 following a stroke.

Taking place at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club, the event was strongly supported as golfers teed off throughout the day.

Managing director of Avon Timber Merchants, Geoff Lomasney, said Kevin is greatly missed by all staff.

He added: “Kevin was involved with Avon Timber for many years – he was a special employee and friend to many.

“This year we raised our biggest ever fundraising through our golf day – a fitting tribute for Kevin.

“The Stroke Association’s work is close to all our hearts.

“It is an incredible charity and provides invaluable support to stroke survivors and their families – I am so grateful to everyone involved for their generosity and support.”

Claire Benfield, regional fundraiser at the Stroke Association said: “We are so grateful to Geoff and everyone at Avon Timber Merchants for raising such an incredible amount of money.

“Without the efforts of fundraisers like Geoff and the Avon Timber Merchant employees, we wouldn’t be able to support the 120,000 people in the West Midlands who are currently living with the devastating effects of stroke – as well as their families and carers.”
