Coventry Editorial 11th Mar, 2023   0

FORMER Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey, Richard Johnson, is coming to Christ the King Club in Coundon on Sunday (March 12) for a special Cheltenham Festival Preview Evening.

Racing TV presenter Derek Thompson, jockey Robbie Dunne, and bookmakers Rhino Bet will join the retired four-time champion jockey on the panel to discuss this year’s Cheltenham Festival and to hopefully provide the crowd with some winning tips.

The Herefordshire-born rider won the Cheltenham Gold Cup for a second time in 2018 on Native River, 18 years after scoring with Looks Like Trouble.

Other major triumphs included the Queen Mother Champion Chase with Flagship Uberalles in 2002 and the Champion Hurdle on Rooster Booster a year later.

His brilliant last-gasp success in the 1999 Stayers’ Hurdle on Anzum was the first of his 23 winners at the Cheltenham Festival and he was an awarded an OBE for services to racing in 2019.

Irish Jockey Robbie Dunne will also be on panel at the event, which is sponsored by Rhino Bet.

Martin Chapman from the bookmaker will be providing up-to-date odds for all the races and there will be exclusive special offers, free bets and price pushes available on the evening.

Doors open from 7.15pm for the preview at 7.45pm.

Tickets, at £10, are available online at ctktickets.co.uk or from Christ the King Club in Coundon.
