YOUNGSTERS at Christ the King school will become Sky Blues this week as they head to Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium to represent Coventry City at the premier league primary stars national girl’s football tournament.

The event will be held on Wednesday and will see primary school children representing 20 premier league, English football league and national league clubs take part in a group stage and knockout competition.

Over 14,500 girls representing more than 100 professional football clubs across England and Wales competed for the chance to be included in this year’s tournament.

The Christ the King girls had to win their regional heats to earn themselves the chance to travel to Leeds and live the life of a premier league footballer for a day.

The competition will see match officials from the premier league and women’s super league referee the matches.

The tournament is part of the premier league primary stars project, which enables teachers to use resources across English, PSHE, PE and Maths, to help children develop life skills and values.

Currently, 103 professional football clubs from across the leagues run in-classroom sessions in local partner schools as part of the scheme.
