Christians prepare for regional pilgrimage to support middle east

Coventry Editorial 3rd Sep, 2017   0

CHRISTIANS are preparing for a pilgrimage to Kenilworth in a bid to support fellow Christians living in the Middle East.

St Francis of Assisi Church will host a free event in support of town based charity the Friends of the Holy Land on Saturday September 30 from 10.30am.

The day-long event at the church’s parish centre in Warwick Road will see Christians from across the country come together to learn more about the challenges faced by Christians living in the West Bank, Gaza, Israel and Jordan.

Since forming eight years ago, the charity has raised over £3.1million and support over 2,000 vulnerable Christians each year.

Friends of the Holy Land was set up after a group of Kenilworth pilgrims visited the Holy Land to witness first hand the hardships of their fellow Christians.

Lecturer at Bethlehem University and FHL member Husam Wahhab, will speak about the challenges he faces as a Christian living in Bethlehem and the impact of his work with FHL.

Director at FHL Maria McCaffery said: “FHL is extremely proud of its roots within the Catholic Parish of Kenilworth and grateful for the many volunteers that support us. Our National Gathering provides a unique opportunity to hear a firsthand account of life today as a West Bank Christian, how the work of FHL makes a difference and to show what more needs to be done. We hope many people from the local area will join us for this free event and find out how they can get involved in our work.”
