City firms vote to give Coventry BID another five years

Coventry Editorial 28th Feb, 2023   0

COVENTRY Business Improvement District (BID) has pledged to continue supporting and promoting city centre firms after securing another five-year term.

The BID’s recent re-ballot process saw the majority of members vote for it to continue for a fifth term.

A consultation period was held as part of this process, during which businesses highlighted security and safety, enhancing and promoting the city centre, and business voice and support as major areas they wanted the BID to focus on.

Priorities outlined in the BID’s Business Plan include trying to achieve Purple Flag accreditation, which aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres at night.

It will also look to encourage greater footfall in the city centre.

During the consultation, 74 per cent of businesses said it was extremely important for the BID’s street patrol team to operate during peak business hours.

In addition, 55 per cent said they regularly used the retail radios as part of a BID scheme.

The radios are used to share local intelligence with other businesses, the BID’s street patrol team, CCTV operators and the local neighbourhood policing team.

BID Manager Joanne Glover said: “We’re delighted that businesses have put their faith in Coventry BID for another five-year term.

“Over the past 20 years, the BID has played a key role in helping support businesses and ensure that Coventry city centre is a safe, successful place to be.

“We’ve taken our members’ feedback and plan to continue to promote culture, tourism and events, to invest in campaigns that celebrate Coventry as a thriving location for investment and ensure businesses are involved in partnership working across the city.”

Coventry BID’s fifth term will officially start on April 1.
