City of Culture Trust to commission climate activities after £200,000 funding

Coventry Editorial 5th Dec, 2022   0

COVENTRY City of Culture Trust will be commissioning cultural events encouraging behaviour change around the climate crisis after a £200,000 grant funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

The funding will support the Trust as they build new local partnerships and invest in organisations to deliver interactive and engaging projects.

It will also help new organisations to develop so they can be ready for commissions over the next 18 months.

The Trust recently announced plans for its first ‘legacy’ commissions which build on the programmes during the city of culture year.

Programmes include one that responds to the cost-of-living crisis by enabling over 650 people in warm spaces to take part in activities including sewing and visual art.

Another commission brings creative activities to the city’s parks and green spaces.

Martin Sutherland, Chief Executive of City of Culture Trust, said: “We are extremely grateful to have secured another grant from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to support our legacy plans.

“This generous grant will enable us to support projects that demonstrate the role of arts and culture in finding solutions to building a better, greener, fairer future for Coventry”.
