City scientist has sights on Miss England final as fundraising weekend approaches

A BIOMEDICAL scientist has already surpassed her own expectations by finishing runner up in Miss Coventry this year, and she’s now gunning for national glory.

Emily Bunce, who tasted success when winning the Miss Nuneaton title earlier this year, will once again be raising funds for Beauty With A Purpose.

The charity supports children on an international scale and can help benefit the most vulnerable people in society.

The 24-year-old will be hoping it’s not a case of ‘unlucky for some’ as she starts a blockbuster weekend of fundraising on Friday (May 13) with a pub quiz at the White Lion in Bulkington.

Emily, who is planning to complete her specialist training in haematology and blood transfusion in the next few years, will then host a private function at her house on Saturday evening before attending a car boot sale in Nuneaton on Sunday.

Her charity work is only a percentage of the full job required if Emily is to make the final of Miss England 2016.

The Coventry University graduate has had to choose her own eco dress, which she’s sourced locally from Heaven Vintage in Fargo Village.

Emily said: “There is a lot of work to do before the semi-finals.

“This year’s eco theme is ‘English fashion through the ages’ and I have my outfit sorted after spotting an amazing outfit in Coventry.

“I managed to win Miss Publicity, Miss Charity and Miss Congeniality during the Coventry event – it’s such an honour to win these as it makes all my hard work pay off.

“I’ve completed a five mile walk for the Air Ambulance and have enjoyed meeting new people this year and really getting to mix with people in my local community.”

The scientist has set her sights high and admits she can’t wait to meet her competitors, who she explains are all hard-working determined characters.

She added: “I’m really excited to meet all the girls I’ll be competing against, a lot of them are friends from last year and I know how hard they all work so to make it through to the final will be a challenge.

“One thing I have learnt is that all the contestants are the same – they are all determined and work hard to represent where they are from.

“Everybody taking part in the pageant bonds quickly because we all have similar interests.”
