ELDERLY Coventrians enjoyed a free day of laughter, fun and friendship at the Belgrade Theatre last Wednesday.
Around 60 people attended the befriending event, held by the Coventry Building Society, where they enjoyed refreshments and snacks before sitting down to watch the comedy special ‘Rock on Tommy.’
The special performance featured performances from Tommy Cannon and Britain’s Got Talent juggler Jay Rawlings.
Guests included groups from Age UK and care homes, those living with Dementia and Parkinson’s, who have suffered a bereavement or feel isolated.
The building society holds regular befriending events throughout the year for elderly people to help tackle isolation and loneliness while improving their mental well-being.
Previous befriending events have included visits to the Coventry Building Society Arena, meeting Coventry City legends and Christmas meals.
Coventry Building Society’s senior community officer Emma Brodie said: “Our befriending events have really grown over the past few months – this month alone we’re hosting multiple events.
“We’ve had a great afternoon with some regular guests and plenty of newcomers who heard about the event. It was lovely to see our guests meeting new people and enjoying the show.”
