Closure order secured against Coventry flat after community concerns over drugs

A CLOSURE order has been secured against Hillfields House in Yardley Street after repeated community concerns and reports over drug dealing, drug taking and cuckooing.

Police and social housing provider Citizen received reports ranging from trespassing to drug-dealing, disorderly behaviour and the use of weapons, leaving residents of the flat feeling scared.

They also felt the behaviour posed a risk to children, with used needles often left in communal areas.

The closure order was granted at Coventry Magistrates Court last week after police carried out a drugs warrant.

The order makes it an offence for anyone other than the owner to enter Hillfields House.

Insp David Langston, County Lines task force manager for Coventry, said: “This was a great result, directly responding to concerns from neighbours and the wider community.

“If you are worried about anti-social behaviour in your neighbourhood, get in touch with us and let us know.”

Citizen’s Head of Neighbourhood Services, Pauline McKenzie-Brown added: “Citizen takes reports of crime and anti-social behaviour very seriously and will not tolerate illegal activity in any of our homes.

“We work in partnership with West Midlands Police and with considerable evidence and witness impact statements, we will tackle the issues that impact upon our customers, to make them feel safe and secure living in their home and neighbourhood.”
