COMMENT: Keep calm and carry on

Chris Willmott 24th Jun, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

The decision has been made – Britain is to leave the EU.

There has been much scaremongering from both the stay and leave camps in the run up to the Referendum, but what is important now is to avoid knee-jerk reactions, refuse to panic and stay calm.

There may well be some adverse effects for our economy, but our country is strong and is better equipped to deal with them than most others.

House prices may  go down – but only if everybody keeps on saying they will.

The country may go into recession – but only if everybody says it will.

Opposing sides in arguments always deal in extremes, extremes to panic the undecided to vote for them and their way forward.

But the reality is that a middle ground is always a much truer reflection.

Say no to self-fulfilling prophecies.

Now the people of Britain have spoken – rightly or wrongly – it is time to have the courage of our convictions and see our decision through.

We must be strong, steadfast in our belief of our own abilities and confident that Britain is a world leader and will remain as such.
