Community performers generate success at festival

Coventry Editorial 4th Oct, 2022   0

OVER 300 people descended on the Albany Theatre on September 25 to celebrate Coventry talent at Generate Festival.

The festival was an opportunity for community performers to showcase their talents on the Albany stage, with nine acts performing on the night including theatre, music and dance acts.

Among the groups taking the stage were Ankura Dance, the Elevate Theatre, the Godiva Academy of Performing Arts and Soulful Gospel Choir.

After launching last year over several weekends, the Generate Festival was extended to this year after working with the City of Culture Trust.

Plans are already underway for the festival to return next year with Albany Theatre speaking to the acts featured in this year’s event.

Albany Theatre’s music and community lead Chris Gernon said: “It was a fantastic turnout and the feedback we are already getting from the acts involved is overwhelmingly positive.

“The acts really appreciated the opportunity as it was no cost to them and they got to perform in front of a large audience.

“It’s been really great to be able to reach out to the community in this way and we will continue to do so.”
