Concerns expressed about state of Coventry footpaths

WOODLANDS residents have expressed concerns about ‘dangerous’ footpaths in their area.

Coventry conservative leader Coun Gary Ridley said he’s been approached by numerous Coventrians living in the area regarding the state of several footpaths.

One footpath, on Ettington Road in Mount Nod, had numerous raised and wobbly slabs leaving residents worried about the possibility of someone falling.

Coun Ridley claimed residents had told him the footpath had been that way for around six weeks.

He added other areas of concern include ‘cracked, uneven and wobbly’ pavements on Wellesbourne Road.

He added: “Residents were worried about the possibility of someone falling and said that an elderly gentleman nearly did a few weeks ago.

“What’s really alarming is that there are red paint marks everywhere which residents said were put there a few weeks ago by the Council which suggests they knew about this.

“I’ve demanded immediate action from them because I’m really worried someone will fall.

“Today the question on everyone’s lips was why are the Council are so quick to put up taxes but slow to do basic repairs?”

A Coventry City Council Spokesperson said: “We’d like to reassure residents that our Highways Team regularly inspect all the roads and pavements in our network.

“We have seven repair teams who work on jobs across the city. When issues are reported to us, our teams tackle them within appropriate timescales and with the resources available to them.”

The spokesperson added the footpath on Ettington Road was scheduled for repair this week.
