COOMBE Abbey is seeing double after scooping two accolades at a national industry awards ceremony.
The period hotel on the outskirts of the city won Silver in the Best Value for Money Conference Venue category and Bronze in Best Unusual Venue at the M&IT’s annual industry awards.
Ron Terry, general manager of Coombe Abbey, said: “Coombe Abbey is a unique building which dates back as far as the 12th century and as such we feel it is important to celebrate its rich history, whilst also providing great value for business and leisure guests.
“The M&IT awards are among the most prestigious for the events industry and to have received national recognition at the ceremony is a fantastic achievement – particularly for a privately-owned hotel.
“We are therefore delighted to have beaten off tough competition to be recognised in both the Best Value for Money Conference Venue and Best Unusual Venue categories, which demonstrate the team’s hard work over the last year to grow the hotel’s reputation as a mark of quality.”
The latest successes come hot on the heels of Coombe Abbet announcing a record year – with more than 65,000 guests for around 1,500 events, weddings and conferences vising the venue.
Now in its 21st year, the hotel is looking to the future.
Mr Terry added: “As part of plans to further enhance our facilities and increase business, Coombe Abbey has also submitted a proposal to extend our popular wedding facilities by launching an external wedding venue.
“The venue, which we hope to open later in the year, will be situated in the parkland and will overlook the picturesque lake and gardens – allowing us to provide even more couples with exceptional wedding celebrations.”
