More than 17,000 riders have signed up to the 100-mile and the new 42-mile route which takes place on Sunday (May 12).

The National Trust estate of Packwood House, The High Field Pub and Georgian streets of Edgbaston and National Cycling Memorial in Meriden will be sights for cyclists to take in throughout the course.

Roads will be closed across Shirley, Cheswick Green, Bentley Heath, Knowle, Balsall Common. Berkswell and Meriden.

Among the famous faces taking on the 100-mile challenge are England Rugby World Cup-winning captain and Vélo Series ambassador Martin Johnson and cyclist Chris Boardman, who is riding as an ambassador for Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity Birmingham.

Richard Relton, managing director of the Vélo Series, said: “Following months of hard work and planning, we are incredibly excited to see 17,000 riders lining up in Birmingham this Sunday ready to ride 100 or 42 miles on closed roads.

“It’s going to be a truly special day for the Midlands and my thanks go to our hosting local authorities: Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire, Sandwell and Dudley, along with all emergency services providers and event partners for their vital help in the planning of this amazing event for the region.

“Our focus is now on giving all our riders a safe and unforgettable experience along a stunning route that starts in Birmingham before showcasing the beautiful Warwickshire and Solihull countryside and the historic heart of Coventry.

“We can’t wait to see thousands of local residents out on the route cheering on the riders who are literally going the extra mile to raise funds for local and national charities close to their heart.”
