COVENTRIANS are being urged to put their foot forward and sign up for one of the city’s Cancer Research UK Race for Life events.
This year marks the race’s 30th anniversary, and to mark the milestone everyone taking part will receive a special medal.
Around 33,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the West Midlands every year, with cash raised during the Race for Life going towards helping scientists to diagnose, prevent and treat over 200 types of cancer.
The race for life events will take place at Stoneleigh Park on Saturday, June 17, with people of all ages and abilities able to take part in 3k, 5k and 10k events.
And there will be a ‘Pretty Muddy’ obstacle course to tackle on the day.
Around 10million people have taken part in a Race for Life since it began in 1994, with more than £920million raised during that time.
Jane Redman, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson in Coventry and Warwickshire said: “We’d love for as many people as possible across Coventry to join us during our 30th year of Race for Life.
Race for Life is a powerful way to celebrate and remember loved ones affected by cancer and to raise money for pioneering research.
“Whether people are living with cancer, taking part in honour of or in memory of a loved one with cancer or signing up to protect their own children’s future, everyone has a reason to Race for Life.
“Sadly one in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime but support through events like Race for Life funds groundbreaking work to see more people surviving cancer.”
Everyone who joins a race in January will be able to claim 50 per cent off the entry fee using the code RFL23NY.
