Coventry and Solihull schoolkids to perform with Harry Potter actor

Coventry Editorial 16th Jun, 2019   0

KIDS from schools and choirs across Solihull and Coventry will perform a special production of Beowulf with help from an actor in the Harry Potter films.

Hundreds of talented kids will join experienced musicians and Oliver Phelps, known for playing George Weasley in the movie adaptation of J.K Rowling’s novels, at Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry on June 27 at 7.15pm.

Kids from the AC Academy choir group in Solihull, and six other schools in the borough are set to take to the stage.

AC Academy is Armonico Consort’s singing education programme and Beowulf will see 450 children from a further nine of the region’s school choirs and its three AC Academy after-school choirs, join together for the performance.

A tale of magical beasts, demons, warriors and a heroic prince, the epic saga Beowulf has inspired generations.

Oliver Phelps is to narrate the role of Prince Beowulf in a musical re-telling of the timeless fantasy.

With its strong folk-pop influences, the hour-long performance is billed as an introduction to the excitement of live music for the whole family.

Armonico Consort’s artistic director Christopher Monks says: “When we first performed Beowulf in 2017 it was quickly clear that our composer-in-residence Toby Young had created something really special.

“It completely captured the imagination of the children and all the musicians we worked with.

“Giving young people from our AC Academy choirs and AC Academy Scholars an opportunity to perform a fabulous new work alongside professional musicians and celebrities in a top class venue is what Armonico Consort is all about.”
