Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra tuning up for its Heroes and Villains concert

Coventry Editorial 7th May, 2023   0

COVENTRY and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra (CWYO) is bringing its ‘Heroes and Villains’ concert to the city later this month.

The event, starting at 2pm on May 13 at Coventry Central Hall, Warwick Lane, will feature an eclectic mix of solos from some of its older players, including music by Mozart, Beethoven and Funkadelic.

Once again, the 30-strong orchestra will be conducted by Joe Davies, who took up the baton with CWYO in January 2023.

He currently conducts the Leamington Sinfonia, Worcester Philharmonic and Midland Concert Orchestra and has a strong record of working with youth orchestras, choirs and other music groups. Among them are the youth orchestras of Warrington, Cumbria and Westmorland and Coventry Youth Choir.

Joe said: “I’m hugely enjoying conducting the CWYO and looking forward to this end of season concert.”

The orchestra is made up of young people from the Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull areas who play at around Grade 5 level or above.

The CWYO provides an invaluable opportunity for young players to enjoy rehearsing and performing together.

CWYO’s most recent performance was their successful ‘Folk vs Film’ concert, in the beautiful Holy Trinity Church, in Leamington Spa, and the group is keen to showcase its progress and attract new players.

The May concert promises to be a fantastic experience for families, aspiring musicians and music lovers alike.

Tickets, at £12.50 for adults and £7.50 (concessions), can be bought at trybooking.co.uk/CHZO along with family tickets.

A limited number of tickets will be available on the door.

Always looking for new players

The CWYO is keen to attract young players and is offering young people who play an instrument (at any level) and up to two of their parents/carers free tickets to the concert.

Email [email protected] in advance and a ticket will be reserved.

New players are always welcome. Visit cwyo.org/join-us or email [email protected] for more on the orchestra, how to join and to attend a rehearsal without obligation.
