COVENTRY author Aaron Ashmore has released a new book telling two inspiring stories for youngsters to learn more about the city’s cycling past.

‘A Starley story’ looks back at the extraordinary lives of pioneers James Starley and his nephew John Kemp, who played a crucial role in shaping the world of bicycles.

The book, illustrated by Coventry artist Graham Slingsby, showcases the Starleys’ inventions and accomplishments in the bicycle industry.

And, as with all of Aaron’s books, 1,000 copies will be donated to Coventry schools for free to allow staff to teach students more about the city’s history.

This is Aaron’s eighth book revealing more about Coventry’s rich history, with previous books including ‘Lady Godiva’s Birthday Suit’, ‘Coventry; The Phoenix City’ and ‘The Time Travelling Coventry Taxi’.

Aaron said: “I was captivated by the incredible impact the Starley family had on the bicycle industry, and I knew their story needed to be shared with young readers.

“The Starleys’ inventions revolutionised transportation and brought joy to countless people.

“I hope this book sparks curiosity and encourages young minds to explore the wonders of history and the limitless possibilities of their own imaginations.”

‘A Starley Story’ will cost £8 each.
