Coventry British Transport Police officer found guilty of voyeurism to be sentenced next week

A COVENTRY-based British Transport Police (BTP) officer found guilty of voyeurism is set to be sentenced on Wednesday, May 24.

A jury found PC Kieran Ball guilty of the offence at Leamington Crown Court last month and he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.

A woman who was known to Ball went to have a shower at her home address on June 10, 2021 when she noticed an iPad propped up on the windowsill.

The iPad, which belonged to Ball, had been set on record for nearly six minutes, which captured a video of the woman undressing.

The woman took a video of this recording on her mobile phone and reported the incident.

Ball’s mobile devices were seized and he was interviewed for the offence of voyeurism contrary to the 2003 Sexual Offences Act following enquiries from Warwickshire police.

He was immediately suspended from the transport police, although he never accepted any wrongdoing and tried to claim in court he had been using the iPad to pleasure himself.

Following the criminal investigation, the BTP started proceedings to hold an accelerated misconduct hearing at the earliest opportunity.

Ball answered allegations that he breached the standards of professional behaviour at a hearing at Force Headquarters in Camden on May 2.

Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi found Ball’s actions amounted to gross misconduct, and he was dismissed from the force with immediate effect.

Chief Constable D’Orsi said: “PC Ball was trusted with upholding the law and protecting women and girls, and yet he made this abhorrent attempt to invade the privacy of a woman he knew in a space she had every right to feel safe in.

“His actions are entirely inconsistent with our values and there is no place in our force for people like him.

“My decision to dismiss Kieran Ball with immediate effect reflects the seriousness with which we view such behaviour and anyone who undermines our efforts to rebuild public confidence in policing.”
