Coventry Building Society makes £1million cost-of-living cash donation to help the city

COVENTRY Building Society have announced a £1million donation to help those within the city who have been hit the hardest by the cost-of-living crisis.

The cash has been donated to schools, food banks, social supermarkets and youth groups as well as supporting the elderly and tackling homelessness in the city.

The building society has been engaging with local community groups in recent months to find the issues where people needed the most support as well as speaking to residents through their branches, befriending events and coffee mornings.

They found that in recent months demand for food banks has increased while donations have gone down, while numerous children who aren’t eligible for free school meals are going without food at lunch.

Every school in Coventry will be gifted a portion of a £250,000 pot of cash to be spent on food and emergency support.

A further £200,000 will be given to support Coventry’s 15 social supermarkets, while £115,000 will be granted to Act on Energy.

And the Heart of England Community Foundation Cost of Living Appeal will be given a £100,000 donation.

Each of Coventry Building Society’s 65 branches will also be gifted £1,000 each.

Anna Cuskin, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Coventry Building Society, said: “I hope this money will be a welcome break that will really support people in Coventry.

“The donation will support people from all walks of life, this past year has been particularly challenging for everyone as there are so many people that are going hungry including children during school days, while others can’t afford to pay their bills and are cold in their own homes during the winter.

“Through our partnerships across the city, we were able to ask what they were seeing, how people were suffering and what we could do to help”.
