Coventry businesses 'can turn city into powerhouse'

BUSINESSES in Coventry have been told they can make the city a ‘powerhouse’ of the region – and the country.

At a meeting of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s Coventry Local Business Forum, Coventry North West MP Taiwo Owatemi cited the City Centre South, Friargate, Cultural Gateway and Very Light Rail schemes as examples that would help to transform the city.

She said investment in skills and transport would help to drive forward the regional economy, adding: “We can be a powerhouse of the West Midlands and, indeed, the whole country when you look at all of our attributes as a city and the businesses we have here.”

Andrew Todd, the University of Warwick’s director of regional strategy and partnerships, outlined how the University links with business as well as providing graduates, interns and students for projects into local companies.

And Adam Hunt, the head of property and development at Coventry City Council, told businesses that the £450million City Centre South scheme would make Coventry city centre a ‘24/seven’ economy.
