Coventry cafes team up with the Samaritans to offer free cuppas on 'Blue Monday'

COVENTRY cafes have teamed up with the Samaritans to offer free cups of tea on ‘Blue Monday’ tomorrow, writes Sonny Rackham.

‘Blue Monday’, a term first coined by Sky Travel in 2005, refers to the third Monday in January where poor weather, failed new year’s resolutions and financial troubles following Christmas and new year can have people feeling especially down.

So to combat that, Cafe in the Park at Coombe Abbey and The Park Bistro at War Memorial Park are offering free cups of tea to spread a more positive message as part of the Samaritans’ ‘Brew Monday’ campaign.

People will not need a voucher or code to claim the free cuppa – just turn up.

The cups are being given away by the venue’s owners No Ordinary Hospitality Management (NOHM).

NOHM’s head of marketing Rebecca Freeman said Brew Monday was there for everyone to reach out to people around them.

“We’re encouraging people to come along, see a friendly face and say hello.”

Brew Monday events are being held across the country, supporting the Samaritans and their life-saving work.

A Samaritans spokesperson said: “At Samaritans we know there’s no such thing as ‘Blue Monday’ – we all have our good days and our bad days, and those are not for the calendar to decide.

“Instead start a conversation over a brew!

“Reach out and connect with family, friends, colleagues and loved ones.”
