COVENTRY Cathedral is inviting residents to remember to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away peacefully at Balmoral yesterday at the age of 96.
All are welcome to attend the Cathedral ruins, which will be open until 11pm as a space to pay respects, pause and reflect.
Space has been reserved for flowers to be laid at the Cathedral.
The New Cathedral will be open from 8.30am until 8pm where there will be the chance to sign condolence books and light candles.
The Coventry Litany of Reconciliation took place at midday and there will be prayers on the hour every hour.
Evening Prayer will take place at the usual time 4pm and a Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving will be held at 6pm.
The Queen laid the foundation stone at the Cathedral on March 23, 1956 before returning for the consecration service on May 25, 1962.
She was on the throne throughout the new Cathedrals entire history, marking her Platinum Jubilee only a few days after it celebrated its Diamond anniversary.
Dean John Witcombe said the Queen has “inspired us, and led us faithfully in our national life.”

“We share in Coventry Cathedral with so many in our country in feeling a special closeness with our Queen.”
“Queen Elizabeth has shared her life and faith with us throughout her reign.
“She has wept with us and rejoiced with us.
“She, like us, has known challenges in her personal and public life, and we have been privileged to share those times with her in an age which has seen an explosion of access to the life of our monarch through the media and now modern technology.
“May she rest in peace and rise in glory.”
