Coventry Christmas Tree collection raises whopping total for city charities

COVENTRY and Warwickshire charity’s Christmas tree collection has raised over £48,000 for The Myton Hospices and Pass the Smile.

For the fifth year running, the annual event has reached record-breaking numbers, with nearly £150,000 raised in total.

In total, 51 per cent of cash raised will go to The Myton Hospices and 49 per cent will go to Pass the Smile, a named research fund at the Childhood Cancer and Leukaemia Group.

Over 3000 Christmas trees were taken to Russells Garden Centre where they were shredded.

This year’s plan included producing biomass pellets from the shredded trees, creating an ecologically sound fuel source.

Charlotte Ingram, Director of Income Generation at The Myton Hospices said she is overwhelmed by the amount of cash raised from the collection this year.

Charlotte added: “On behalf of everyone at Myton I want to say a big thank you to the organisers, volunteers, businesses and supporters who have contributed to making the collections such a success and to everyone who has donated.

“The money raised will make a real difference for our patients and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire. We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings.”

Scott Crowther from Pass The Smile, who leads the endeavour, said the money raised is beyond his wildest expectations.

He added: “We receive so much support from our communities, we are beyond grateful for the effort that people continue to put in to help our charities.”

Supporting organisations had grown and included some of the region’s biggest employers such as Coventry Building Society and Jaguar Land Rover.
