Coventry Editorial 12th Dec, 2022   0

COVENTRY Council is set to spend £1.8million on improving areas of the city centre including parts used for major events and attractions.

The cash will be spent improving security in the city centre as well as improving its appearance.

Work will also focus on lighting and refreshing areas around Broadgate, The Upper Precinct, Priory Place and the Cathedral.

Buildings and facades will be upgraded around Broadgate, The Precinct, Market Way and Barracks Way tunnel, while damaged water features in Priory Place will be addressed.

Security measures will also be introduced in areas such as around the Cathedral, the University and The Wave to create safe events spaces.

The work will be discussed at a cabinet meeting on December 13 and at full council on January 17, and is expected to be completed by March 2024.

Coun Jim O’Boyle, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Regeneration and Climate Change, said: “The work so far has totally transformed our city centre and has been really well received by residents and visitors.

“These improvements will not only add to the look and feel of the city but will also help people to feel more secure.”
