ENHANCED police powers will be in place in Coventry city centre this weekend under a dispersal order – starting from 6pm tonight (Friday September 10).
A Section 34 dispersal order will be in place for the city centre, Far Gosford Street and parts of Hillfields until 6pm on Sunday (September 12).
Coventry Police said the order has been put in place following a firearms discharge in the early hours of September 13.
A spokesperson said: “We will be using enhanced powers to tackle crime in Coventry city centre.
“These powers allow officers to direct individuals to leave the area to prevent or reduce anti-social behaviour, harassment or disorder, as well as robbery.
“People who are told to leave and then return can be arrested.
“You will see an enhanced police presence in the city over the next two days as officers go about their business.
“Remember, if you see anything suspicious, call 101 and tell us what you know.
“Robbery and anti-social behaviour are key priorities for the City Centre team, particularly in parts of Hillfields.
“We are continuing to work with businesses and the local authority to tackle these issues and keep residents and visitors to Coventry safe.”
