Coventry City fan’s shock as pup chews up play-off tickets

HAVING spent 22 years hoping to see his beloved Coventry City get promoted back into the Premier League, shocked super fan Jim Lennon thought he may have to miss out on witnessing potential history when his dog chewed through his championship play-off semi-final tickets.

Eight-month-old cocker spaniel Leo was in the dog house after owner Jim returned home to see the pup had chewed through the mail, leaving several letters in pieces, including the tickets to this weekend’s crucial clash against Middlesbrough.

The 63-year-old said he froze when he realised the tickets were in tatters.

A phone cover and an invitation to a family occasion were also among Leo’s Thursday snacks.

“I couldn’t believe it, I took a picture and instantly shared it onto my family group chat” he said.

“Leo doesn’t normally chew through the mail, but he picked the worst possible time to start.

“I rushed down to the ticket office and explained the situation to see if I could get an exchange.

“We had a bit of a laugh about it, but they were absolutely brilliant and exchanged my tickets.”

The lifelong Coventry City fan, who hasn’t missed a single match for several years, said he believes the Sky Blues have a great chance of making it back to the Premier League.

“The way the team are playing at the moment they’re capable of anything.

“It’s absolutely amazing for us to be in the semi-final, and with the difficulties we’ve had if we go up it will be nothing less than a miracle.”

Jim added he’d like Aston Villa and Liverpool to be among the first teams to visit the Coventry Building Society Arena should the Sky Blues make it to the top flight, as well as Newcastle United, who have ex-Coventry centre forward Callum Wilson leading the line for them.
