THE TEAM behind Coventry’s City of Culture bid is urging anyone with creative ideas to come forward.
Coventry City of Culture Trust is calling on city people to come forward with ideas for cultural events which could be used in the cultural programme in 2021 should Coventry be successful.
The team has already held workshops with groups of all ages from a variety of areas and backgrounds across the city, which have spawned the four key themes for the bid – moving, underground, reinvention and human.
And any ideas for cultural events could centre round those.
Laura McMillan, City of Culture Trust Manager, said: “We have a very detailed plan of cultural activity over the course of the next year which is our Advanced Programme.
“As part of the bid, we will also submit 30 to 40 great – and we mean great – ideas that we would stage during 2021.
“Further to that, we would expect many more projects – up to 1,000 events – to be staged during 2021 and we want the people of Coventry to give us some of their ideas that would make for interesting and exciting elements of the bid.”
The team are searching for a wide range of ideas – from major spectacles and festivals, to educational projects or artist commissions in unusual places around the city.
Ms McMillan added: “This bid is for the people of Coventry and we are working to ensure that it is by them too – this is another way of doing that.
“All ideas will be treated with the strictest of confidence and respect and, should they be used, will be credited appropriately.
“This really is an amazing opportunity to be part of and do something towards Coventry being UK City of Culture 2021.”
